After your echocardiogram
Your echocardiogram is reviewed and reported by our cardiologist within 24–48 hours of your scan. The report is sent directly to the doctor who referred you.
Getting your results
To discuss your results, please book a follow-up appointment with the doctor who referred you for the scan.
Your GP or specialist will interpret the findings in the context of your overall health and let you know if any further action is needed. Because echocardiogram findings need to be considered alongside your medical history, symptoms, and other tests, we do not provide results directly to patients.
If you’d like a copy of your report
Please request a copy through your referring doctor’s clinic.
If your sonographer notices something urgent
In the small number of cases where a scan reveals a finding that needs urgent attention, our sonographer will contact your referring doctor as a priority so they can follow up with you.
In most cases, however, your results will be sent through in the usual way and you can discuss them at your next appointment with your doctor.
Future echocardiograms
If your doctor recommends a repeat echocardiogram in the future, they can refer you back to Melbourne Echo Clinic at any time. Whether your repeat scan will be bulk-billed depends on Medicare’s rules and the clinical reason for the referral. Please see our bulk billing information or contact us if you’re unsure.
